An exhibition of artists from the New Reality studio is open at the Russian Museum Automatic translate
ST. PETERSBURG. On September 24, an exhibition opened in the Russian Museum, the exposition of which represents the work of the New Reality studio, which united 60 leading avant-garde artists. Visitors to the exhibition, located in the halls of the Marble Palace, will be able to get acquainted not only with the results of the work of artists who became the founders of a new direction of Russian art, but also get acquainted with the history of the studio.
The union of artists who replaced the well-known avant-garde artists of the early 20th century appeared in the early 60s. Its founder was the famous painter Eli Belyutin, the former leader of Soviet national art in those years. He believed that artists should not copy the reality they saw on their canvases, but write what they feel.
The works of his followers are almost unfamiliar to the general public, since for more than thirty years their work was forbidden, artists did not have the opportunity to participate in exhibitions. At the beginning of the work of the New Reality studio, two exhibitions of its participants were held. In the first, held in 1962, 63 artists took part, one of them was Ernst Unknown.
After the appearance in the Western press of reports on Russian abstract art, the exhibition was immediately closed, and the next one, held in the Manege, caused a grand scandal involving Nikita Khrushchev. This exhibition was the reason for the prohibition of abstract art in the GCC, and the New Reality studio turned into a closed brotherhood of like-minded people.
The exhibition opened in the Marble Palace for the first time will present in the Russian Museum about seventy works by leading Russian avant-garde artists. The exposition includes works by Eli Belyutin, Vladislav Zubarev, Vera Preobrazhenskaya and other masters.
