SOUTH SAKHALINSK. Commemorative exhibitions open every year on the day of the writer’s death in the exhibition hall of the Sakhalin Island Museum, dedicated to the work of the great writer A. P. Chekhov. This year, at the exhibition that opened in the museum on July 15, the public presented the work of the writer’s closest relatives - nephew S. M. Chekhov and son Sergei.
The exhibition, whose name is fully consistent with its content - “The Legacy of Chekhov’s Artists”, includes about two dozen works. Their authors are Chekhov’s father and son. All the artists’ works were presented for the exhibition from the funds of two museums - “Sakhalin Island”, located in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, and “Chekhov and Sakhalin”, located in the city of Aleksandrov-Sakhalinsky. ”
Both authors have been painting since childhood. Many works by Chekhov artists are associated with the name of their famous relative. They visited many places where Anton Chekhov traveled. Each of the trips became an occasion for the creation of new paintings made in various techniques. The exhibition also features views of Sakhalin created by artists visiting the island. The exhibition introduces the diversity of their work.
In 1958, they visited many of the places where the writer lived during the creation of the work “Sakhalin Island”. Aurelian Oladin, curator of the exhibition Chekhov’s Heritage of Artists, at her presentation said that the illustrations for Chekhov’s works created by Sergei Sergeyevich are on display at Chekhov’s museum houses where he lived and worked. In Melekhovo and Yalta, some works from the Sakhalin cycle were also housed - watercolors, oil paintings, sketches.
The exhibition in the South Sakhalin Museum will run until July 27th, and then visitors to other museums located on Sakhalin Island will see it.
