MOSCOW. The Watercolor Academy continues to acquaint visitors of its exhibitions with the work of the talented artist Gennady Provatorov, who tragically left our world in 2012. An exhibition of the works of G. Provatorov “The Small Homeland” was successfully held at the Academy a year and a half ago. After the exhibition, part of the paintings from the artist’s heritage was donated by the relatives of Gennady Provatorov to the Academy fund.

Many of them required a small restoration, and for display to the public it was necessary to properly execute them. At the end of these works, the paintings were ready for presentation to lovers of pictorial art. The exposition of a new exhibition of works belonging to the brush of Gennady Provatorov is located in the administrative building of the Academy, on the 4th floor. Acquaintance with the artist’s works will continue until October 26th.

He received his professional education in the famous Stroganovka, where his mentor was the famous Helium Korzhev, People’s Artist of the USSR. The study was completed in 1985, In the eighties, an active interest in art was formed, and painting enjoyed special attention.

The main theme of many young artists was the Russian landscape, idealizing Russia. Most of the work of Gennady Provatorov was also devoted to Russian landscapes. The next decade, when the life of the country changed, and with it the interest in art was lost, the life of the artist changed.

He moved to the province, where he was closely confronted with peasant life. The subject of the painter’s work has also changed. In the second half of the nineties, Gennady began work on paintings on the theme of the peasantry. Over time, they teamed up in the Lonely series, which became an epic tale of Russian people.
