May 18 is the International Museum Day celebrated around the world. On this day, museum staff seek to attract the widest possible audience. Especially for those who, due to their busyness, are unable to come to the museum on a typical day, the “Museum Night” is organized when the working day of all museums in the world is extended all night or until late in the evening.

“Museum Night” is an international action, the tradition of its occurrence arose in Western Europe. In the Kaluga region, the first museum that joined it in 2007 was the Kaluga Regional Art Museum. This year, the museum, together with the Obraz art gallery, will offer the evening museum program to Kaluga residents and city guests for the eighth time. In 2014, Museum Night will be held on May 17.

On this day, all visitors will find a more than eventful program of events that will last until 23.00 and will be held at two addresses at once:

St. Lenin, 104 (building of the Kaluga Regional Art Museum):

From 12.00 to 23.00 the main exposition and exhibitions are open: “An exhibition of one painting: I.E. Repin “Portrait of a Woman” and the exhibition and sale of “Fantasies of Glass” of handicrafts and colored glass by masters of Gus-Khrustalny, in the museum’s exhibition hall there is an exhibition “Kandinsky’s Time” from the private collection of I. Stiezhka (Germany).

In the courtyard of the museum will be an open air for students of the painting department of the Kaluga College of Culture and Arts, master classes by Kaluga artists Viktor Alekseev and Yuri Inyushkin.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the traditional Glade of Masters will work - an exhibition and sale of works by folk craftsmen of Kaluga. At the workshops, everyone will be taught painting on wood, sculpting a Khludnev toy and making jewelry from polymer clay.

At 18.00 and 19.30 we invite you to visit the unusual "Musical excursions" in the halls of the museum with the participation of students of the regional music college named after S.I. Taneyeva.

From 12.00 to 23.00 the following exhibitions work: the photo exhibition "The Orange Kingdom: a visiting card of the Netherlands" (Moscow); exhibition “Thanksgiving. A. Smirnov (sculpture), Y. At 12.00, the winners of the regional photo contest “Impressions of a European Travel”, which was held as part of the exhibition “Orange Kingdom”, will be awarded in the red hall of the gallery.

At 15.00 and 17.00 in the multimedia cinema you can watch videos about the palaces and museums of St. Petersburg.

From 9.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m., the musicians of the Soul-Jazz quartet invite everyone to the musical Journey through Europe.

The holiday will be completed with a virtual exhibition and show of works from the museum’s collection at 22.30 - 23.00 in the red hall of the gallery.
