Nadezhda Borisovna Nordman - Severova (1863-1914) (Severova - pseudonym) was born in 1863. in Finland in Helsingfors (Helsinki) in the family of a Russian admiral of Swedish descent and a Russian noblewoman. She received an excellent home education, knew several languages, played music, painted in oil and watercolor, and was engaged in literary work. In Russian literary life, she positioned herself as a writer.
I.E. Repin and N.B. Nordman - Severov met in the studio of the artist. She accompanied Princess M.K. Tenishev, the owner of the famous Talashkino, whose portrait was painted by Repin. According to the definition of V. Rozanov, “This woman swallowed Repin whole.” She became the second wife of the artist. In 1899 I.E. Repin acquires a small plot of land forty kilometers from St. Petersburg in Kuokkale, known to us today as the Penates, and gives it to NB Nordman - North.
