Izhevsk. The Gallery Exhibition Center celebrated the Day of Cultural Workers with the opening of the Who’s First? Exhibition, which was based on paintings by Aleksey Rychkov and Valentin Belykh on the history of Izhevsk. The exhibition also includes household items and rare books, organically combined with historical paintings by artists.

This exhibition was a preliminary show before the opening of the Izhevsk Museum, the first exhibition presentation of which is scheduled for July 12th, along with the celebration of City Day. One of the exhibits of the future museum will be the canvas “Bookmark of the Izhevsk Plant”, written by Valentin Belykh.

When creating paintings that reproduce the history of the city, Valentin Belykh resorts to using photo archives. The use of the smallest details of old photographs allows the artist to reconstruct metropolitan landscapes that have long been absent in reality with meticulous precision.

This is a very necessary job, bearing an educational function. In addition to recreated ancient landscapes, Valentin Belykh specially for the exhibition wrote two works by pastel and two sketches, which depict views of modern Izhevsk. The artist believes that only the right angle chosen for the picture makes it possible to present the city as interesting as possible.

Alexey Rychkov always works without using photos. He writes his paintings only from nature, finding for his landscapes the corners of the city, which are on the verge of extinction. On the canvases of the artist’s old buildings of the city, almost abandoned streets. Thanks to the artist’s landscapes, surprisingly bright and light, the familiar places of the city look unusual in a new light.

The exhibition, during which creative meetings with art critics and painters will take place, is open until April 8th.
