Exhibition of graphic artist Yuri Vashchenko - illustrations for English fairy tales Automatic translate
MOSCOW. The Museyon Aesthetic Education Center, together with the St. Petersburg publishing house Vita Nova, opened the exhibition “Vacation of Common Sense”, the exposition of which consists of illustrations created by the artist Yuri Vashchenko. The exhibition was created as part of the Great Britain year taking place in Russia this year.
Amazing graphics created by Yuri Vashchenko for the famous “Alice”, born of the imagination of Lewis Carroll, allows us to recall the smallest details of the plot of a fantastically absurd, but still beloved fairy tale and its heroes. Each of them is recognizable at a glance.
The kind Humpty Dumpty, ready to celebrate “not birthdays”, the March Hare, lover of endless tea parties, the Caterpillar with a hookah - each of these illustrations evokes a kind smile from any visitor to the exhibition. Vashchenko turned to the plot of "Alice" by accident, in 1984, having received an order of works on the theme of Carroll’s fairy tales.
The further work on the order progressed, the more interesting it became for the author. In 1987, Yuri Vashchenko received in Bratislava a prestigious award - the Gold Medal - for illustrating Alice.
30 years have passed since the year when the first illustrations for the adventures of the girl Alice were created. Now Vashchenko made them again, using a different graphic technique. New works created in etching.
A new series was added to them, in which the artist turned to the work of the writer, far from the fairy-tale genre. "The Story of a Knot" is a collection of puzzles created by the storyteller and mathematician. Readers will see this book on a bookshelf very soon. In the world of mathematical puzzles invented by Carroll, the heroes of his tales will settle down.
The exhibition, open until March 16, presents new works by the artist based on popular English fairy tales.
