For the first time in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Parisian heritage of Zinaida Serebryakova Automatic translate
MOSCOW. The staff of the Tretyakov Gallery continues to acquaint the Russian public with artists from Russian foreign countries, whose work is often almost unknown at home. In connection with the dramatic events that took place in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, many talented masters were forced to leave for emigration. Some of them planned to leave for a while, but by the will of fate they found themselves outside their homeland forever.
The opening of the exhibition of the famous representative of the world-renowned art dynasty Benois-Lanceray, the artist Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova, scheduled for February 14, the Tretyakov Gallery provides an opportunity for a detailed acquaintance with the French period of her work.
In France, Zinaida Serebryakova lived more than half of her life. Having left Russia in 1924, temporarily, hoping to earn money in Paris to support her family, she ended up in exile for life. Her family after the death of her husband consisted of four children, but only two of them, Catherine and Alexander, managed to reunite with their mother. Separation from older children - Eugene and Tatyana, lasted forty years.
The artistic talent of Zinaida Serebryakova was formed in a family whose members played a huge role in the development of Russian culture. Many famous Russian architects, sculptors, artists and art historians were representatives of this talented dynasty.
A huge influence on the development of Zinaida Evgenievna’s talent was exerted by the classical art heritage of world art, with whom she met while traveling with relatives in Italy. Skills from nature were acquired by the young artist during her studies at the St. Petersburg studio of O. E. Braz and the Paris Academy of Grand-Chaumiere.
The name of the exposition of the exhibition, consisting of two parts, fully corresponds to its content. The first part of the exhibition, called - “Zinaida Serebryakova. The Paris period ”, introduces the artist’s works stored in her Paris workshop. More than 70 works presented at the exposition have never been exhibited in Russia before, for this reason they are not familiar to the general public.
The second part presents the works of the children of Zinaida Serebryakova, who inherited the artistic talent of the famous dynasty. Their names are presented on the poster of the exhibition - “Alexander and Ekaterina Serebryakova”. Both artists are fluent in watercolor technique. The works they created combine Russian and European artistic traditions, which is inherent in all generations of the Benois-Lansere-Serebryakov dynasty.
Born in 1913, Ekaterina Borisovna is the founder of the Fondation Serebriakoff Zinaida Serebriakova fund. Ekaterina Serebryakova is still alive, she holds the post of Honorary Chairman of the Fund, thanks to which it became possible to display works by Zinaida Serebryakova, previously inaccessible to the Russian public, in the capital’s museum.
The works of Zinaida Serebryakova are in the collections of the largest Russian museums, and in the Tretyakov Gallery her first work appeared in 1910. Then the museum acquired her canvas, written in 1909 - “Behind the toilet. Self portrait. " A large number of works were acquired by museums after personal exhibitions of the artist, held in 1965-1966 in Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev.
In the Tretyakov Gallery, the artist’s works are on permanent display. However, the expected exhibition will become a unique opportunity for museum visitors to study Zinaida Serebryakova’s work in more detail, as well as to get acquainted with the talented works of another generation of the famous dynasty.
A catalog album has been prepared for the exhibition, the inspection of which will be available on March 30, lectures and guided tours will be held.
