ST. PETERSBURG. The memorial house-museum of Anna Akhmatova supported the events taking place in the hero city in honor of the 70th anniversary of the lifting of the blockade. On January 28, an exhibition was opened in which two Petersburg artists who survived the blockade are represented. The exposition was called - “Blockade. Before and after".
Vasily Kaluzhin and Konstantin Kordobovsky were not widely known in official art. Only the closest people knew that the home collections of each of the artists totaled hundreds of works of excellent quality. But the talent of the artist, as educators, they generously shared with their students, teaching art painting.
Artists continued to work in the besieged city. It is possible that the creation of new works and helped them survive these terrible years. Konstantin Kordobovsky during this time, many illustrations were created on the themes of Pushkin’s fairy tales. He turned to other fairy tales.
The graphic sheets created by the artist are executed with amazing craftsmanship. It is hard to imagine that these works were done in a city surrounded by a blockade ring. The exposition includes both earlier works of Kordobovsky and post-war creativity.
The series “Evacuation of Hermitage paintings” presents the work of Vasily Kaluzhin, performed in the war years. He has addressed this topic many times using various techniques. The exposition includes the artist’s early graphics, as well as post-war painting. These works have never participated in exhibitions.
The exhibition was complemented by the work of contemporary artist Grigory Katznelson. Portraits of people who are close in spirit to the writer Gennady Gor, who wrote poetry in the besieged city, the artist painted specifically for the exhibition. They entered the section of the exposition dedicated to Gennady Gore.
