Born in the village of Nizhnyaya Ozerna, located in the Kursk region, Leonid Rudnev went to study in Kursk, at an art-graphic school. After graduation, in 1957, the young artist continued his studies at the Kharkov Art Institute. This was followed by distribution to the Pedagogical Institute of the city of Kursk, for teaching.

Today, Leonid Rudnev is still working at KSU, holding the position of professor of the art and graphic faculty. All the years, he successfully combined teaching with artistic creativity. In his works, the artist carefully preserves the traditions of landscape painting. Leonid Ivanovich writes and still lifes. His paintings are rich in color, emotional.

He can rightly be called a follower of the great Russian masters of painting - Levitan and Savrasov, Korovin and Serov. Leonid Rudnev’s paintings are available in the collections of many art galleries in the country, as well as among private collectors.
