The largest exhibition in Russia of drawings by Yuri Grachev opened Automatic translate
YEKATERINBURG. The official opening in the Museum of Fine Arts of the personal exhibition of the Russian artist Yuri Grachev will not take place until September 20, after the arrival of his widow, Elizabeth Gracheva from New York. However, it was possible to get acquainted with the master’s works starting on the 5th of the current month.
The museum staff organized, for those wishing to learn more about the work of Yuri Grachev, an open tour on September 11th. The conductor in the creative world of the artist was a researcher with a master’s degree in art history, Irina Riznychok.
The exposition of the exhibition is made up of 109 drawings made by coal and pastel. Some of the works were provided by the artist’s relatives from the family collection, some were stored in the collection of the Yekaterinburg Museum. The works were created by Yuri Grachev during his life in New York, where the artist emigrated in 1977.
It was life in America that positively influenced Grachev’s talent, fully revealing it. Arriving in a huge metropolis, with its diverse street life, became an impetus for a change in the style of drawings, which became more expressive, and also defined the theme leading in the work of Yuri Grachev.
Entire series of graphic works have been created devoted to the street life of New York, full of paradoxical contradictions. In parallel with his work, there was another line in which the artist worked using the eternal motives of art - “mother and child”, “artist and model”.
All the artist’s drawings are unusually expressive, filled with bright, memorable images. The art of the master of drawing has already been appreciated by collectors and large museums, however, an exhibition of the works of Yuri Grachev in Russia is presented for the first time on such a scale. You can visit the exhibition until October 27th.
