In Yekaterinburg, a presentation of the portrait of the youngest daughter of Paul I Automatic translate
YEKATERINBURG. On July 18, the Museum of Fine Arts hosted the presentation of the painting “Woman’s Portrait”, dedicated to the festival “Tsarist Days in Yekaterinburg”. For many years, the identity of the woman depicted on the canvas, made by the artist Timofei Nef in 1856, was unknown.
Not so long ago, after much research done by employees of the Museum of Fine Arts, they finally established that the woman depicted in the portrait is the Queen of the Netherlands, Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna. This became possible thanks to a comparison of the details on the canvas - signs of awards, ermine mantle, indicating that this person belongs to the Imperial House,
In addition, the jewelry depicted on the woman was so rich and of high artistic value that researchers suggested that it could be a portrait of one of the Great Romanov princes. Since the canvas marked the year when it was written, the researchers decided that this woman could be one of the daughters of Paul I.
After careful comparison of a large number of portraits of the princes, the researchers found that this is a portrait of the youngest daughter of Emperor Paul the First - Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna. Some time after her marriage to the Dutch prince of Orange, she became Queen of the Netherlands.
The court painter Neff painted this portrait during the not too long stay of the Queen of the Netherlands in Russia. The Queen’s arrival in Gatchina in 1855 was connected with her quarrel with her eldest son. After spending some time in Gatchina, she visited Moscow, and then returned to Holland, which had long become Anna Pavlovna’s home. It was during this period of time that a portrait was painted that was previously considered a portrait of an unknown.
