The exhibition "The Sun of the Poor" opened in Dnepropetrovsk Automatic translate
DNIPROPETROVSK. Since January 22, the industrial Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk got the opportunity to immerse itself in “self-knowledge” and see the unsightly truth of its existence thanks to the exhibition of a group of contemporary artists R.E.P. and their landmark project, “The Sun of the Poor.”
The presented exhibition project consists of a number of monumental works, many of which are already historical in nature and are associated with political events taking place in 2004 and called the Orange "revolution". The gap between the mute people and the "puppeteers" leading their game at that time prompted a group of young artists to creatively rethink the ordinary, everyday aspects of modern society.
The artists set themselves the goal of truthfully showing the contrasts of modern Ukraine and Dnepropetrovsk in particular. When, on the one hand, we see an imitation of culture and luxurious private buildings, and on the other, a gradual impoverishment, ruin, and a totally low level of education of society.
The exhibition included photo and video documentation of projects implemented by artists in Ukraine from 2005 to 2012, numerous sketches and full-fledged paintings. As well as a large-scale installation dedicated to the development of Dnepropetrovsk in the context of historical retrospective.
Visitors who come to the exhibition are surprised to find the true face and character of their own city, which every year becomes less noticeable against the faceless shopping and business centers. You can see the exposition in the art center "I Gallery" for the next 2 weeks.
