KOSTROMA. An exhibition of the famous 19th-century artist Academician Gennady Ladyzhensky was opened at the Romanovsky Museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the anniversary - a painter born in the city of Kologriv in the Kostroma province on January 23, 2013 will celebrate 160 years since his birth.
Ladyzhensky received his art education in St. Petersburg, studying at the Academy of Arts, where at that time the famous masters, I. I. Shishkin, taught. And M.K. Klodt. These artists taught the young painter to observe the main rule - before painting, you need to carefully study nature. This rule Ladyzhensky observed all his life.
After graduating from the Academy, where for his paintings “Picnic” and “Postal Road in the Forest”, Ladyzhensky received the title “artist of the second degree,” the young painter left for his homeland, in the town of Kologriv. There, in anticipation of a vacancy, he spent two years working a lot on landscapes of the surrounding area.
Finally, in 1882, having been appointed as a teacher in a real school in Odessa, Ladyzhensky moved to the city that became his hometown. Stay in Odessa was the beginning of his career, it was in this city that his fellow artists began to call Ladyzhensky “the king of watercolors”.
The painter was awarded awards from the emperor, the Academy of Arts of St. Petersburg awarded him the title of academician. The artist painted his paintings not only in watercolors, but also in oil, but he worked so delicately that the work done with oil paints resembled transparent watercolors. After his resignation, in 1914 Ladyzhensky returned to his homeland, in Kologriv, where his works arrived with the artist.
The exhibition at the Romanov Museum, which will be open until May next year, will present visitors with more than a hundred works by the painter.
