IRKUTSK. A solo exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of Vitaly Smagin, Russian national artist, was solemnly opened in the regional art museum. Congratulations from friends and admirers from all over the country were voiced at the opening of the exhibition.
The museum’s collection, as Elena Zubriy, director of the museum, emphasized in her congratulations to the jubilee, contains twenty works by the artist, and the painting “Dreams” painted by the master is included in the exposition of the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg. The exhibition opened presents seventy paintings created by Vitaly Smagin in different years.
Currently V. Smagin works at the Technical University of Irkutsk, and heads the department of painting. In a congratulation from the rector of the university, Ivan Golovnykh, it was said that it is a great honor for the university to have such a talented teacher among the teachers who was able to bring up such talented students.
In his work, Vitaly Smagin never stopped at his goal. He constantly tried his hand in various genres and types of painting. It is impossible to consider him an artist of the same style, among the works of the master there are monumental works of oil, there are drawings in pastel and pencil. However, in whatever technique the painter’s work would be performed, his work is always recognizable.
At the anniversary exhibition, Vitaly Smagin presented some of the works already familiar to admirers of his work from past shows, supplementing them with new works. According to the artist himself, two paintings are of particular importance to him - “After the rain” and “Kai grove”. All works are imbued with love for the Baikal region, and the cycle of landscapes with views of the Glazkovsky suburb impresses with the beauty of the selected places.
The exhibition runs until January 27th.
