Cooking in art - action "Center for Enjoyment" by Andrey Chepurko Automatic translate
November 22 in the Kiev gallery "Project space" was a kind of action by a modern Ukrainian artist Andrei Chepurko. The concept of the evening was one of the basic needs of each person - the need for food.
The artist believes that the theme of "Food" in art is universal and in its significance can be equated with such epic definitions as Love, Death, War, Birth, Miracle, Holiness, etc.
The exposition created by him was of a somewhat provocative nature, as the heroes of the evening were famous cultural figures: Lars von Trier (screenwriter and director), Azis (gypsy folk singer), Slava Zizek (culturologist and philosopher). An ambiguous reaction is caused by the appearance among the "heroes" of the Norwegian nationalist and terrorist Anders Bering Breivik, as well as the interaction of images among themselves.
They either argue with each other and enter into confrontation, or they find common themes, which subsequently again turn into a dispute. Adriy Chepurko tried to recreate emotionally the state of a regular holiday dinner, when all the guests eat, drink and habitually talk about “higher matters”.
The characters of the exhibition were selected based on the opinion of the author that they are absolutely established personalities, even somewhat ossified in their development, and therefore can be easily served directly to the table. Which was done with the help of four cakes decorated in the form of their heads.
One can argue about how such an event can be attributed to high art. But such actions are one way to make people think. And to realize that they are trying to slip under the guise of higher values. To teach you to separate the golden grains from the empty chaff so as not to lose your head from the loud names, but to honor the worthy among them! And this is not enough.
