On September 7, a ceremony was held dedicated to the battle of Borodino in the war of 1812. The main "protagonist" was the battle painting by the artist P. von Hess "The Battle of Borodino." He managed to organically capture in one picture all the stages of the battle and the participants in the battle.

Examining it, you can literally see how the hostilities took place: in the depths of the French cavalry trying to break into the center of Russian troops; in the center - the wounded general P.I. Bagration, giving the last orders, in the left and right sides are Russian regiments, fiercely resisting the French.

The battle of Borodino was neither a victory for Napoleon nor a collapse for the Russian army. On the contrary, she showed the conquerors that one should not expect an easy victory and the end of the war soon. Russian troops, led by Kutuzov, retreated, but did not lose their fighting spirit.
