Exhibition "Dream of Reason" opened in Odessa, inspired by the work of Francisco Goya Automatic translate
On August 24, Ukrainian artists presented at the Museum of Modern Art their vision of the modern world, sleeping in reality.
The Dream of Reason exhibition is designed to revitalize the subtle satire in art that Francisco Goya promoted two hundred years ago. The Capriccios series of this great Spanish artist laid the foundations of 19th-century realism, and also made the society of its time look at itself with a sober look. The era, overwhelmed by romanticism, first saw itself without makeup and was horrified.
Perhaps this is precisely the effect achieved by modern Ukrainian artists. They are not afraid of criticism and misunderstanding, wanting only one thing - to hook the audience for the lively, make visitors resent and… think! To think about whether life is worthy? Are you yourself or, for the most part, are a perishable product of a century that values convenience foods and seeks to deprive people of their ability to think, make decisions and act independently.
Strong criticism of the “normal” is one of the characteristic features of this exhibition. Artists tried to demonstrate the consequences of modern pop culture, distorting the soul and body. In a world where evil is the norm, and a mentally healthy person looks out of place, all possible vices reign. Which were in a bright, somewhat aggressive form depicted on the paintings. Reveling in themselves and their weaknesses, losing their minds in the prison of their own prejudices - these are “heroes” calling to come to your senses and wake up!
