The jury announced the 2012 Long Booker Prize Automatic translate
As you know, every year in London, the most prestigious prize in the field of literature in English, Man Booker Prize, is held (in the Russian version, the Booker Prize). Established in 1968, a prize can only be received by a citizen of Britain, Ireland or one of the countries of the Commonwealth. A long list, which should consist of 12-13 applicants, is usually announced in August.
In 2012, the writers included in the Booker Prize long-list were identified a little earlier. Apparently, the authors on the list were very convincing. There are only twelve candidates for victory. Among them are former nominees and prize winners.
This year, the number of applications exceeded the number of last year: in 2011 there were 138 applicants, in 2012 - 145.
Only two celebrities participate in the semi-final: the popular satirical writer Will Self with the novel Umbrella and Hilary Mantel (2009 laureate), representing the novel Bring Up the Bodies (Bring in the Bodies).
As already mentioned, the list of nominees includes writers who have been candidates for the Booker Prize for several years. This category includes Andre Brink, Michael Frein, Nicola Barker, Twang Eng. But only four writers made their debut this time.
Nine authors come from Britain, and one each from India, Malaysia, and South Africa.
By tradition, a short list, which includes six authors, is announced in September. In 2012, the announcement of the Booker Prize nominees is scheduled for September 11. But the presentation ceremony itself will take place on October 16, where we will find out the name of the winner. As a prize, the writer expects a check for 50 thousand pounds.
