The creation of the new exhibition "Faces of Russia" is nearing completion Automatic translate

The staff of the Russian Museum almost completed the tremendous work to create a new, permanent exhibition, “Faces of Russia”. The idea to open a large-scale exposition devoted to outstanding figures of Russia in Mikhailovsky Castle has matured long ago. However, only this year it was possible to translate a long-planned project into reality.

Work on the first part of the exhibition was completed on May 25 and already from Monday the public will be able to “look into the eyes” of several generations of the imperial family. The basis of the collection consisted of ceremonial portraits (large canvases depicting noble persons in full growth) of the 18th - early 20th centuries, performed by both Russian and foreign artists. Among 36 canvases there are works of such brush masters as S. Torelli, V.L. Borovikovsky, L. Karavakk, D. Dow, P.S. Drozhdin and other famous artists. Particularly soulful are the portraits, whose authors remained unknown to history.

The exposition should be of interest to a wide range of visitors to the Russian Museum. And where else can you see how the descendants of the royal family from John the Terrible to Nicholas II looked, albeit a little embellished? And how striking is the contrast in the image of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, Peter I, Paul I, Alexander II and Princess Sophia, Catherine the Great and other eminent women of the Russian Empire. Perhaps someone who visited the exhibition and looked at the faces of the great people who are creating the history of our homeland will be inspired by their examples.
