Pinacoteca Brera will be managed by a public foundation Automatic translate
The Italian government has approved a plan to create a public-private Foundation Fondazione Grande Brera, which will manage the famous Brera Art Gallery (Pinacoteca Brera). According to The Art Newspaper, this is an unusual solution for Italy, where large museums are usually run by the state.
The collection of paintings is here: Pinacoteca Brera
The Ministry of Culture of the country itself explains this step by the fact that it is becoming more and more difficult to cope with the management of numerous museums. In response to criticism of the fact that the famous Milan gallery was actually privatized, officials noted that all of the gallery’s property remains under state control.
It is expected that the new management structure will begin work in December, and its main task will be to complete the reconstruction of the museum, which is already valued at 120 - 150 million euros. Plans include expanding exhibition space by restoring the nearby Palazzo “Citterio” (Palazzo Citterio), built in the 18th century. The long-term management strategy involves moving the funds of the Academy of Fine Arts (Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera), which are located in the Pinacoteca building, to a new location, which will free up more space for a wonderful gallery collection.
Fondazione Grande Brera will also deal with financial issues: now the gallery will itself manage the funds from the sale of tickets and other shares. At the same time, financial support from the Ministry of Culture will be significantly reduced.
The Pinacoteca houses exceptional examples of fine art such as Supper at Emmaus (1606) by Caravaggio, The Lamentation of Christ; 1408 by Andrea Mantegna, Montefeltro Altarpiece, also known as The Brera Madonna "(1472) Piero della Francesca," Pieta "(Pieta, 1460) Giovanni Bellini," The Marriage of the Virgin; 1504) by Raphael, "In Search of the Body of St. Mark" (The Finding of the body of St. Mark; 1562-1566), written by Tintoretto, and others.
