The painting depicts a rural landscape dominated by two windmills, with a grassy hill and a scattered collection of buildings. The foreground is a vibrant expanse of green grass, dotted with small yellow wildflowers and patches of darker, more textured vegetation. A rustic wooden fence runs horizontally across the mid-ground, separating the grassy field from a cluster of structures and the windmills.
The larger windmill, positioned on the crest of the hill to the right, is the focal point. Its a weathered wooden structure with visible blades, suggesting its functional. A French flag flies from its peak. Several smaller buildings, some with red accents, are clustered around the base of the hill and near the windmill. To the left, a second, smaller windmill is visible, also appearing somewhat aged.
The sky is a soft, hazy blue with hints of white clouds, creating a slightly diffused light. The brushstrokes are visible and energetic, particularly in the rendering of the grass and vegetation, giving the scene a textured and lively quality. Theres a solitary figure visible near the fence in the mid-ground, appearing to be walking.
