Painter: Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin
Have you ever been in the forest when it was completely possessed by fog? Or when it slowly enveloped the forest with its vapor-so thick and so alive-that it became frightening. What if there was someone inside the mist? What if that someone is some kind of forest animal? This feeling of fear is all the time possessed by a person while the fog is around. After all, sounds in the fog become deafening, and if it is thick, you won’t remember where to go, and you’ll probably run into something unpleasant. The fog, depicted on his canvas by the talented landscape painter Shishkin is certainly not thick, even the sun penetrates through it.
Description of Ivan Shishkin’s painting "Fog in the Woods".
But the mystery of this natural phenomenon nevertheless has not dried up.
Look, we can clearly see only what’s in the foreground, and what’s behind is in a rippling fog. And even the shadows from the trees are not clear, smoky or something ... But the artist shows us a rare forest, not dense. The sun would have hardly been able to break through the foliage in the thick forest, but he managed to do it here.
The master took everything into account in his canvas. Well-drawn firs and pines, broken branches in the foreground, stumps. And by the way, more and more often we become convinced that the artist’s favorite time of year is autumn. Because even now, it seems that the action takes place in autumn. The grass is no longer as green, and the sun is not warming up so hot. This is why the fog does not evaporate, but rather a little stronger, that is, to cope with the light. And it is thanks to the sunlight the artist shows us the state of the two trees, relatively young. One has already lost its leaves and is ready to face the cold, and the second one, on the contrary, is darkened - it’s a pine tree, which, as you know, does not lose its needles. That’s why its shade is thicker, and the shade of the tree is barely noticeable. And yet, as a rule, spruces and pines grow together, side by side, so it is so easy for them to grow in the woods. And that tree is one, and not too weak, according to the pines.
