This is a still life painting by Jan Davidsz de Heem, titled Still Life with a Glass and Oysters. The composition features a dark, footed glass goblet filled with a pale liquid and adorned with a curling peel of citrus fruit or melon. To the left of the goblet, several oyster shells are arranged on a wooden surface, one of them opened to reveal its contents. To the right, a lush bunch of white grapes hangs over the edge of the table, accompanied by a slice of lemon. The objects are set against a dark, muted background, emphasizing the richness and texture of the items in the foreground. The scene is draped with a luxuriously deep green fabric.
The subtexts in this painting are characteristic of the Dutch Golden Age still life tradition, often carrying symbolic meanings related to wealth, transience, and mortality.
