The artist has not delineated forms with sharp precision; instead, contours are suggested through subtle gradations in tone and loose, gestural lines. The beach itself appears undulating, marked by what might be dunes or gentle slopes. These features are defined primarily by variations in color intensity rather than clear outlines. A small, dark shape is positioned near the lower left corner, its purpose ambiguous – perhaps a rock formation or a shadowed area of vegetation.
Above this terrestrial plane, the sea stretches out, rendered with horizontal strokes that convey movement and distance. The water’s surface reflects the overcast sky, contributing to the overall somber mood. A patch of brighter white is visible near the center of the upper portion, possibly representing a breaking wave or a highlight on the waters surface.
The absence of human figures or any explicit narrative elements contributes to a sense of quiet solitude and contemplation. The drawing seems less concerned with accurately depicting a specific location than with conveying an atmosphere – a feeling of vastness, melancholy, and the relentless power of nature. The loose application of materials and the lack of detail suggest a fleeting impression, a momentary observation captured in a spontaneous gesture. It is possible to interpret this as a study for a larger work or simply a meditation on the interplay of light, color, and form within a coastal environment.
