In his painting "In Winter," the artist Korovin expressed his feeling of love for nature. The beauty of the winter landscape opens our eyes. In the midst of the white snow stands an old log house, and from behind the open gates one can see the doors open. Apparently, the farmer was in a hurry to get somewhere, so he didn’t even have time to close the doors. And here the horse is ready to move. And behind the house, one can see fields with a snow-white cover and regal forests.

Description of Konstantin Korovin’s painting "In Winter".
In his painting "In Winter," the artist Korovin expressed his feeling of love for nature. The beauty of the winter landscape opens our eyes. In the midst of the white snow stands an old log house, and from behind the open gates one can see the doors open. Apparently, the farmer was in a hurry to get somewhere, so he didn’t even have time to close the doors. And here the horse is ready to move. And behind the house, one can see fields with a snow-white cover and regal forests. The harmonic combination of gray, blue and lilac tones adds to the integrity of the picture. The master of the brush has given the image of Russian winter soulfulness and lyricism. It is believed that painting the picture, the artist was under the impression of amazing landscapes of the Russian painter Savrasov, who was his first teacher. The whole composition of "Winter" is very intimate, here everything is centered on the foreground of the picture, because everything that is going on is enclosed by a hut on one side and a hedge on the other.
The horse, which is harnessed to the sleigh, is a small speck in the center of the picture. And everything around breathes with the usual country life.
The artist does not introduce shades of lead into the light silvery palette of the landscape, not to mar the picture, but to convey the freshness of the air that heralds spring. Warmer shades testify to its imminent arrival: dark pink things hanging on the fence, yellowish sledge and raspberry colored horse’s collar. And if you look closely, you can also see ochre tones. Korovin mixed them with silver tones in order to bring a bit of warmth into the winter picture and to convey all the charm of snow cover. These pastel colors with relief strokes convey the true atmosphere of a real work of art. It should be emphasized that the painting "In Winter" marked the beginning of the peasant cycle of such great artists as Valentin Serov and Mark Levitan.
