Большая удача художника. Замечательны совершенно типичные для детей позы. Особенно мальчика с подвёрнутой ногой. А как здорово нарисована подошва подвёрнутой ноги!

The artist has rendered the children with varying degrees of detail. Some faces are more clearly defined, revealing expressions ranging from quiet concentration to a hint of eagerness. Others are depicted in a looser style, contributing to an overall impression of spontaneity and capturing the fleeting nature of childhood moments. The use of light is particularly noteworthy; it illuminates the central figures around the pot, drawing the viewers eye to this focal point while leaving the background shrouded in shadow. This contrast enhances the sense of intimacy and emphasizes the children’s vulnerability.
The clothing worn by the children suggests a lower socioeconomic status – simple garments, patched or mended, are evident. The lack of ornamentation further reinforces this impression. The pot itself appears substantial, hinting at a communal effort to provide sustenance for these young individuals.
Beyond the literal depiction of a meal, the drawing seems to explore themes of poverty and resilience. It evokes a sense of shared hardship but also underscores the importance of community and mutual support in overcoming adversity. There is an underlying dignity in the children’s posture and their focused engagement with this simple act of eating; it suggests a quiet strength born from necessity. The artist has not presented a scene of despair, but rather one of understated perseverance within challenging circumstances.
