George Doe is a fascinating artist, a skilled master of the formal portraiture of the early 19th century, from whom both novice and experienced artists have much to learn. However, this is only true if their artistic taste has not been hopelessly corrupted by what is commonly referred to as modern art. The gallery of portraits depicting heroes of the War of 1812 brought fame to the master, and it represents his most outstanding work. One of the portraits in this gallery depicts General-Infantryman Prince Petr Ivanovich Bagration, Chief of the Leib Guards Jaeger Regiment, Commander-in-Chief of the 2nd Western Army at the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812. He was an outstanding Russian commander, a great patriot of Russia, and a great son of the Georgian people who dedicated his life to the prosperity of his homeland, perishing in the Battle of Borodino in 1812. Peter Ivanovichs intelligent and penetrating gaze is directed at the viewer, connecting the past with the present, as if sharing his innermost thoughts about modern enemies of the world and Russia. He seems to say to them: People who determine US foreign policy, you so-called masters of the world, your prolonged sense of victory in dismantling the established order causes a highly detrimental intoxication from success. You, with an unwavering determination that could be better applied, are unaware of the depth of your spiritual decline, seeking power, comfort, and money, but in reality, you are seeking your own demise in a realm of destruction where you will find it along with your puppets – Ukrainians and other degenerate fascists. And what else can children of destruction seek if not their own destruction? Bravo! You are completely following the plan of the prince of darkness regarding your future existence. To perish more quickly and surely, you have created an outstanding alliance of utterly pragmatic cynics and completely degenerate fascist lunatics of all stripes around the world. Your great goal is to divide peoples, plunging them into chaos and destruction, so that you can then dictate your malevolent will upon them as the sole superpower of the world. Yes, gentlemen, this is truly a noble goal for true children of destruction who have achieved remarkable perfection in their own destruction, a veritable apotheosis, so to speak, of your high mission on Earth. Are you not children of Satan? Is it not said in the New Testament that the children of Satan fulfill their fathers lusts? Do you not bear his mark? Do you not possess conscience? Do you not always and everywhere testify to who your children are? Do you not always follow your destiny – into hell? Is it not said in the New Testament: Who sows the wind shall reap the whirlwind? Or there: Whoever exalts himself will be humbled? But the time for these prophecies is soon approaching. Are you not already dead while still alive on this earth? And is your soul not full of evil and hatred? Is it not like a garbage can filled to the brim with foul-smelling refuse? Is it not said in the New Testament that evil must come into the world, and it will come, but woe to him through whom it enters the world? Are you not those very utter creatures and pathetic nonentities who sow evil and destruction in the world and assert themselves in it? Well, what else can children of Satan assert themselves in? Certainly not in love or good deeds. Are you not merely instruments of evil in the hands of the Higher Judge? Will He not soon cast you out and burn you as uselessly as harmful weeds are burned? Will you, who live in the kingdom of darkness, never enter the Kingdom of Heaven? Is it not the Highest Will that condemns you to spiritual death in the kingdom of darkness even during your earthly life? Are you not those who are unable to realize the full weight of their situation and, horrified and repentant for their fall, unable to be born again? Are you not faithful children of Satan who do not hear the Voice of Conscience because you do not have it within yourselves? Recently, I saw a program on television featuring one of your red-haired beasts who suddenly appeared on the screen like a demon from hell. This utter cynical creature is a great master of empty rhetoric. Her impudent, overconfident audacity is as convincing as her stupidity and complete incompetence. And in the features of her face, which are not burdened by much thought activity, one could not find any trace of complex reflection, even with a dog. Bravo, gentlemen! Truly, children of Satan follow their destiny – into hell. As one of our leaders once said: Youre on the right track, comrades! Yes, gentlemen, with such competent personnel, you are burying yourselves, and very soon. Did not our Great President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin say about people like you that they should be mooched? And will you not eventually be mooched there as well? And will this cup not pass you by, for the Judgment of God is not always swift, but it is always inevitable. Looking at us sternly from the portrait of George Doe, Prince Petr Ivanovich Bagration – a great son of the Georgian people, a patriot of his homeland – addresses the citizens of Ukraine as if to say: Hold on, friends, Im with you, and together we will defeat both the overseas madmen and the Ukrainian fascist degenerates! Glory in eternity to our Great President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin! Glory to Russia, and woe to its enemies!

The subject’s features are rendered with considerable detail. A prominent brow ridge and strong jawline suggest determination and resilience. Subtle shading around the eyes hints at weariness or perhaps introspection, adding complexity beyond a simple display of power. The artist has paid close attention to the texture of his hair, which is dark and neatly styled, framing his face in a way that emphasizes its structure.
The elaborate uniform dominates much of the visual field. A blue coat with vibrant red facings is adorned with intricate gold embroidery on the shoulders and cuffs. Several medals and orders are pinned prominently to the chest, signifying military honors and rank. The richness of these details underscores his status within a hierarchical system. The metallic sheen of the decorations catches the light, drawing attention to them as symbols of achievement and recognition.
The subdued color palette – primarily dark greens, browns, and blues – creates a somber atmosphere that is characteristic of formal portraiture from this period. The limited range of tones focuses attention on the subject’s face and uniform, preventing any distraction from the central figure.
Subtly, theres an element of vulnerability present despite the imposing military presence. The slight downturn of his mouth, barely perceptible, suggests a quiet melancholy or perhaps a burden carried with dignity. This nuanced expression prevents the portrait from becoming merely a celebratory depiction of rank and achievement; it hints at a deeper psychological complexity. The overall effect is one of restrained power, tempered by an underlying sense of introspection and experience.
