Куда кентавры дели своих кентавресс, и что они собирались делать с человеческими женщинами? Или автор картины руководствовался описанием известной сцены из "Золотого осла" Апулея?

The central focus appears to be on a struggle between muscular male figures, some possessing human torsos and equine lower bodies (centaurs), while others seem to be anthropomorphic warriors (Lapiths). The Lapiths are depicted as actively engaged in combat, wielding swords and shields, and overpowering their opponents. A fallen figure lies beneath the central group, adding to the sense of carnage.
The artist’s use of light and shadow is dramatic. Strong highlights illuminate key figures, emphasizing their muscularity and the dynamism of their actions. The background is less defined, with a landscape receding into atmospheric perspective – a suggestion of distant hills and a fortified city on one side, and a cloudy sky filled with celestial beings on the other. These heavenly figures appear to observe the battle from above, possibly representing divine intervention or judgment.
The color palette is dominated by warm tones – reds, browns, and golds – which contribute to the overall feeling of heat, violence, and intensity. The use of vibrant red for a draped figure in the foreground draws attention and adds visual interest.
Beyond the immediate depiction of physical conflict, the painting seems to explore themes of order versus chaos, civilization versus barbarism, or perhaps even the struggle between human nature and divine will. The presence of the celestial figures suggests a higher power overseeing the events unfolding below, hinting at moral implications or consequences for the actions depicted. The compositions complexity and the sheer number of figures involved imply a narrative far larger than a simple skirmish – a grand mythological conflict with significant symbolic weight.
